3.3. Estimate daily intake of aflatoxin M1
According to the Joint FAO/WHO Expert Committee the average dietary intake of AFM1 is estimated at 0.0035 μg/person/day in Latin American (JECFA, 2001). As the average consumption of milk is estimated as 54 L/person/year in Brazil, corresponding to 148 mL/person/day (IBGE, 2009), the estimated daily intake could be calculated using the mean concentration detected in the ELISA and HPLC-FD analysis of raw milk samples, considering a body weight of 60 kg, as summarized in Table 5.
