Listening and Speaking 1: The Speaking Test
This is a document to help you prepare for the speaking test (40%). This is a list of possible questions I might ask you in the exam.
Good Luck
Unit 1
• Understand titles (Mr. Mrs, Miss, Ms.).
• Special titles (What do you say if you speak to a police officer?).
Unit 2
• Practice all of the greetings (page 4).
• Practice the replies from good to neutral to bad.
• DO NOT just say “I’m fine”!
• Check page 6 for the conversation and how to introduce yourself.
Unit 3
• Page 7- check the six questions in bold (below exercise 2).
• Page 8- Could you questions (practice them with your friends).
Unit 4
• Please practice traditional and digital time. I will test you during the exam.
• Page 10- Practice the phrases in the table (at, in, on, no preposition).
Unit 5
• Practice family vocabulary.
• Page 13- Practice the family questions, I will ask some of these!
Unit 6
• Know your occupations.
• Practice answering “What do you do? What does your mother/father/brother/sister do? (pages 15-16).
• Future occupations: What are you going to do when you graduate? Answer: I want to be a doctor.
Unit 7
• Practice unit 7 vocabulary
• Practice exercise 1 at, in or on.
• Practice giving directions (The shoe shop is between the bus station and the restaurant).
• Page 19- Practice the names and meanings of different shops and facilities.
• Page 21- Practice giving directions on a map (check the work you did for exercise 8).
• Practice conversation for exercise 9 ‘Describing your neighbourhood’ (page 22).
Unit 8
• Practice the vocabulary on page 23.
• Look at exercise 1 and practice speaking sentences about your family and friends (Question: What does your friend/mother/father look like? Answer: He/she has……..)
• Practice describing clothes (page 24), e.g. He’s wearing a shirt, a tie and some shoes.
• Check words such as striped shirt and chequed shirt (sometimes called checkered shirt) and for a lady, a blouse.
Vocabulary
• Check you have looked at and practiced all units of vocabulary. It will help your conversation skills.
