Sewerage Operations in the Tama Area
The Tama area sewerage system is made up of regional sewerage operations undertaken jointly by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government and local authorities, and individual public sewerage system operations which are carried out by each local authority on its own.
The Tokyo Metropolitan Government is responsible for the installation and management of regional trunk sewers and water reclamation centers for 26 cities, 3 towns and 1 village, while each of these local municipalities is responsible for the installation and management of sewage facilities from houses to regional trunk sewers.
In the Tama area of Western Tokyo, the Tokyo Bureau of Sewerage manages 7 water reclamation centers, which process a total of 0.92 million cubic meters of wastewater per day.
