Winx Club Season 6 Episode 6 Review
Aside from the usual disappointments on their cringing cheesy lines and sequences, I guess for the current state of Winx this is pretty much one of the good episodes.
Recently I’ve just pinpointed one of the problems of the new Winx. Their dialogues and actions now seem more like they’re acting for an audience, unlike before when they were interacting naturally and without any exaggerated expressions.
They keep saying obvious facts and admire people’s works with too much passion, not to mention too slowly, they sound so forced (come on, Bloom. How can you agonize and moan loudly about your pain for nearly a whole minute? I get that it would hurt, but her theatric actions were just so annoying that instead of feeling sorry, I feel like laughing at her instead). Their overdramatic scenes just don’t go with the flow like they used to.
Although I do like the fact that sharing the Dragon Flame still had its price even if you’re a powerful fairy, and they showed it.
I’m also quite disappointed on how weak the Bloomix currently seems. I mean, don’t they already have the share of the Dragon Flame? How can they at least not defeat a single one of those Flame monster thingies???
And I hate the fact that Daphne always seems so weak in both combat and personality despite the fact that she used to be one of the most celebrated nymphs/fairies in the whole magic dimension. She was the Guardian of the Dragon Flame before Bloom wasn’t she? How can she not defeat them???
I mean, come on! EVEN DIASPRO ENCRUSTED ONE MONSTER IN CRYSTAL, AND SHE’S NOT EVEN THAT POWERFUL A FAIRY!!!!!!
Still, since she no longer has the Dragon’s power, I’m curious with what her power truly is. I would’ve thought that she’d still have fire powers, but this episode showed us otherwise. What really IS her power?
***I stand corrected. I haven’t looked close enough, but it seems that Daphne does have some remnants of the Dragon Flame, as shown below.***
Anyway, when I think back and remember the old Daphne who was a mysterious and powerful spirit who helped Bloom conquer her problems, I just feel so disappointed that the current Daphne is all we could get from her. It just doesn’t feel justified.
Well, at least she’s pretty. But MAN! She and Stella side-by-side really makes them look like sisters instead of Bloom.
Speaking of which, the ThorenXDaphne romance had come up earlier than I’ve expected. I would’ve wanted more built-up and a will-they-or-will-they-not kind of situation that would stretch itself throughout the season just like how they did with FloraXHelia’s romance in Season 2.
It would’ve been a lot cuter that way, but I suppose since their standard’s changed, I shouldn’t be surprised. I’m not against them, but I’m surprised that Bloom (and eventually Sky) are very much supportive of their blooming romance. Isn’t it a little weird that Daphne’s dating her future cousin-in-law??? (O_O)
Then again, since royalty is concerned, I guess they wouldn’t really have a problem with that, but still…
Now another situation that I don’t understand is HOW IN THE WORLD WAS DIASPRO INVITED???? Wasn’t she banished already??? After all she’d done, she was STILL invited to Daphne’s coronation??? ARE THEY REALLY THAT STUPID????????
I’m sorry, I just… I can’t….
Okay, let me take a break from the negative side and go over to the brighter side.
Although Bloomix seems almost as useless as Believix, I do like their magic’s effects. Like how their powers’ essences would slide out from their wings before they strike. If there’s any consolation as to what parts the new Winx has improved on, it’s definitely their special effects.
Bloom earning her Bloomix by passing the test of the Vortex was the best way to earn Bloomix. It wasn’t just a random courageous act unlike the others, but just like how Bloom got back her powers in the first Season, it’s more on discovering on how to open up and dig deeper into their powers. Although I’m quite disappointed with how easily Bloom overtook the serpent, especially since she was already weak before.
Bloom’s way of earning Enchantix was still far better since she really had to suffer and work her way through the longer road, but at least her way of earning Bloomix had more meaning than the others. As if she was reborn from the ashes (her lowest point) like a phoenix.
I don’t know why they didn’t show the whole transformation sequence of Bloom’s Bloomix, but so far, it’s not a favorite of mine. It’s probably the most forgettable for me so far, and that’s not even the complete sequence yet. BUT I do love her background. It’s a little different and really adapts the power of the Dragon Flame, it’s as if she’s on outer space and transforming in the light of the sun. I loved it!
Her pose was, of course like the other girls, awkward, but still at least didn’t suffer as much as Stella. She looked pretty at least.
THIS is how the fairy of the Dragon Flame should look like. Her wings could’ve been a lot bigger/like the first version (although I also like the fact that her wings aren’t the largest even if she’s the most powerful fairy in the magic dimension), then she’d look just like an ethereal phoenix. This has got to be my favorite version of Bloom, maybe even better than her Enchantix (which was my favorite among the girls) since this inhabits more from the Dragon.
I guess I’m just really happy that she’s no longer wearing sissy, frilly, pink heart-themed outfits. (I’m sorry, but her Believix attire was the worst thing a Dragon Fairy would wear!)
It’d be a shame to replace this transformation with Mythix, and as far as we could get from what Mythix looks like, I’d be really disappointed when they earn Mythix. Bloomix could’ve been the last transformation for them since it’s potentially the strongest with the Dragon Flame, and I’d totally be all for it.
But noooo, they just had to add Mythix and add another season, which will hopefully have a more ethereal and useful transformation, though I feel really doubtful.
Anyway, I find it kinda hilarious that while everyone’s worried about the Vortex of Flames, when Bloom was thrown in, she was instead admiring it and saying how beautiful it looked while ignoring the fact that she’s on her way to get eaten by the flames.
The short battle between the Dragon and that five-headed serpent monster was kinda cool. As I’ve said before, the effects were fantastic, and I loved how Bloom summoned with her Dragon and controlled it like a boss.
It reminded me of the Omega Dimension episode in Season 3 when the girls used their Fairy Dust convergence while Bloom summoned the Dragon to defeat the giant snake, ending with a huge explosion. Until now, that was one of the most epic moments in Winx history.
And well, that’s pretty much it for me. Under normal circumstances, I’d give it a 4.5/10. But in their current standing, I’ll give it a 7/10 rating, all thanks to the special effects and Bloom’s battle.
