In summary, TPEG-type polyether kind PCEs were synthesized and evaluated the dispersion, adsorption, zeta potential and application properties by comparing with that of MPEG-type polyester kind PCEs. Meanwhile, MA and SMAS were introduced to modify the TPEG-type polyether kind PCEs in order to further improve its dispersion and flow retention abilities. The results indicated that the MA modified PCE2 had excellent fluidity and flow retention abilities. By analyzing the adsorption behavior and zeta potential, it was found that besides the steric hindrance effect of side chains, the content of anchor carboxylic group and molecular structure also played important roles in dispersion and dispersion maintaining for TPEG-type polyether kind PCEs. PCE2 with excellent fluidity and flow retention ability is highly desirable in practical concrete applications and can be used as high-range water reducers to produce high performance concrete. It would be interesting to perform more systemic studies on the dispersion and adsorption mechanisms of these polyether kind polycarboxylate superplasticizers in more cement systems.
