A September 3, Adelaide.
After a wonderful vacation in Europe, I headed for Australia. I arrived in Adelaide on a direct flight from London with Qantas, the Australian airline. After I arrived I rented a small motor home for $150 a day. The price included insurance, cooking facilities and bed linens. I also decided to buy a snakebite kit in case I got bitten by one of Australia's many poisonous snakes. ////
B September 4, Adelaide to Coorong.
Leaving Adelaide, I headed inland for Glenelg an Australian vacation resort. Then I moved on to Hahndorf, a town where there is a strong German nfluence. From there I crossed the Murray River and reached Tailem, where the road to Melbourne splits. You can take the slow road if you have time on your hands, but I took the fast road to Coorong National Park, which is a paradise for millions of birds.////
C September 5, Robe to Penola.
The next place I visited was Robe, a peaceful fishing village that is slowly being filled with vacation homes At Robe I left the sea for Penola. My bed for the night was in a cottage. I would probably have slept in the motor home if I had rented one with a shower, but I liked the company, especially with deadly snakes around. I was so tired that I slept like a log. ////
D September 6, South to Port Fairy.
My next stop was at the town of Mount Gambier which sits on the side of a volcano. Inside the crater is the Blue Lake where, for reasons scientists are unable to explain, the water changes color according to the season. After a short visit I continued down toward the coast. At Port Fairy I met my tour guide, Noel, in the Tower Hill nature reserve. "You'll see many animals if you're quiet he said. He was right. l saw koalas, emus and kangaroos. ////
F September 8, The Twelve Apostles.
The Twelve Apostles is a group of tall, thin rocks sticking out of the sea. Once there were 13 of them. now there are ten. I could only see eight from the coast, but I was told you could count all ten from the air. After gazing at this wonderful view, I headed for Melbourne and the end of the road. ////
