CONCLUSIONS
The challenges posed by solid waste management in
terms of health and environmental consequences still
maintain a major concern to municipalities
worldwide. Programmes and strategies to ameliorate
this problem have been evolved but the task of
providing a sustainable environment is still daunting.
One innovation that evolved from international
conferences and summits organised to facilitate the
international information exchange is the private
sector participation in solid waste management. In an
attempt to bring new lease of life to the people of
Ibadan Southwest, the involvement of private sector
participation in solid waste management became
inevitable. However, the private sector participation
in solid waste management has been subjected to
review and the impact is open for researcher to arrive
at sustainable waste management in Nigerian city. I
therefore submit that private sector participation in
solid waste management in Ibadan Southwest is a
means not an end. It is believed that if all the
recommendations are rigorously implemented, the
desired sustainable urban environment will be
achieved.
