The percentage DNA profiles and average peak areas for both Fast Black application methods were lower than the control samples (Fig. 2A and B). The direct application results were generally lower than the indirect (blot) method results, which suggest that the reagent had a detrimental impact on DNA processing. Spiking experiments with Fast Black reagent were not conclusive when assessing pre-extraction introduction or the reagent; however, introduction of Fast Black post-extraction/pre-PCR had a detrimental effect on DNA results.
