What good is anthropology, anyway? This is a question I have been asked on several occasions—the first time when I was an undergraduate student struggling to absorb the basic concepts of anthropology. The person asking had little experience with academia or the world outside her community, and I had even less experience with answering such a complex question. Later, as an instructor, I asked my students a similar question: “Of what relevance is anthropology—to you, to your community, and to the global community?” The answer to this question is the subject ofAnthropology Matters.
