In the first plant experiment, a bark mixture that had been steam-sterilized (100 C for 30 min) was inoculated with a suspension of T. atroviride SC1 (50 mL per liter of bark, 3 107 conidia mL1). After 14 days of incubation at room temperature and high humidity (90 ± 10% RH), the bark was applied to potted strawberry plants as mulch (~10-cm layer in each pot). At the same time, pieces of apple wood that had been infected with A. gallica (prepared as previously described in section 2.3) were inserted into the layer of mulch close to the plant.
