The purpose of this research project is to conduct an empirical investigation into the relationship between generational group identification and organizational commitment. To do this, a field study was conducted at a large internet services/telecommunications company by surveying their employees. Upon completion of this project, the organization used for the field study may have a better sense of the levels of organizational commitment for the two generational groups, Generation X and Generation Y, which make up the majority of their workforce. Generalizations might be made based on the results of this study, about the relationship between Gen X and Gen Y employees, regardless of organizational affiliation, and organizational commitment. By measuring the levels of employee organizational commitment and understanding the differences in these levels based on the generational demographics, organizations can attempt to
strategically align HR functions like staffing, training and compensation to enhance organizational commitment.
