Chiang Mai is a province located in the north of Thailand which includes the area of about 20,107
square kilometers. This is to say that Chiang Mai is ranked the second largest province of
Thailand with its population of approximately 1.63 million, possessing the 5th rank of the country. There are 25 administrative districts in Chiang Mai. The Kalayaniwattana district is the 25th district of the province and the 878th of the country.
Chiang Mai has its high level of development and the great potential to progress and grow up very fast regarding the tourism, economic, and investment aspect that make it the biggest economic city in the North, and in Thailand after Bangkok which is the biggest one in Thailand. Chiang Mai remains full of natural tourist attractions, various cultures, and has its long history as it was the location of Lanna empire in ancient time, which has made spoken the Lanna dialect (Kam mueang) until now, as well as the beautiful traditional and cultural uniqueness.
Chiang Mai has stayed since 2009 the second province with highest living expenses in Thailand, also the 33th in Asia, and 192nd in world ranking.
In 2010, the Chiang Mai governor has nominated Chiang Mai creative city development committee to transform itself into a creative city. The committee is now considering to enroll as UNESCO’s creative city.
