Yield
Number of fruits and fruit weights are summarized in Table 4. Only the average
values for the main factors are listed. For tomato only a negative effect of the high Zn
addition of 3% on the yield was found (P=0.07) while no significant interactions between
the effects of the elements were found. For the cucumber crops only incidental small
differences have been found for Fe and Mn. A positive effect of 5% was found by the
high Mn addition in the first crop (P=0.10) and a negative effect of 4% by high Fe
addition in the second crop (P=0.04). For Zn additions more pronounced differences were
a negative effect on yield by high Zn additions, varying from 7 to 10%. Overall, for both
crops no real difference was seen between both high Zn levels. On average, the yield
suppression was 8.5% for the 25 as well the 50 μmol/L level in comparison to the
standard level, with P=0.02 for both crops. Yield differences
