Principle
Using the famous equipment, which are usually used in laboratory, will be introduced. Those are an analytical balance, pipettes, and burettes.
The electronic balance is set to zero using the zero (tare) control bar or button before weighing and unknown object. Practice in the use of pipettes is checked by weighing the amount of water delivered in successive pipettings. Precision of delivery of different volumes is determined. Similar experiments may be done with a burette. The experiments may also be used for calculation (calibration) of the volumes of the glass ware if the temperature of the water is measured.
Guideline for Using of the analytical balance
• Zeroing
Dust the pan slightly with a small brush. Close the doors of the balance (for the 4-digit balance). Turn the balance on and touch the zero (tare) button. The reading should adjust to 0.0000 g for the 4-digit balance and 0.00 g for the 2-digit balance.
• Weighing of objects
Determine the weights of objects. Place the object on the center of a pan using paper or containers. Close the doors and after the reading stabilizes, record the weight.
• Weighing by difference
Weigh the container containing reagent/solid and record this weight. The container is weighed again as the reagent/solid is removed to another vessel, the accurate weight of used reagent/solid is calculate by subtraction way.
• Electronic balance tarring
Place the container on the pan, and push the tare button. The reading should come to zero. Then place the material/reagent/solid in the container, and record the weight.
