Sainter et al. [9] describe knowledge as the ‘‘experience, concepts,
values, beliefs and ways of working that can be shared and
communicated’’. Sriram [10] describes knowledge in the context of
intelligent engineering systems as ‘‘something that an intelligent
being possesses and utilizes for problem solving’’. Sunnersjö [11]
uses the term ‘knowledge’ in terms of design as an understanding
of given information—its content, its origins, and its applicability.
He argues that ‘‘the knowledge should include not only the
rules that the designer should adhere to, but also the background
knowledge that makes the design rules possible to review and understand’’.
