The Thai government began offering the triple combination antiretroviral therapy in 2000.
Over the next couple of years, the price of ARVs declined significantly when generic drugs became available. At the beginning of 2003, the Global Fund awarded Thailand US $ 209 million over a five-year period to help fund the antiretroviral treatment program.
It was estimated that 72,000-91,000 people were receiving ARVs at the end of 2005, including those using private sector suppliers(the MOPH and World Bank [no date]).
