“Ladies and gentlemen, the practice of glue sniffing is very common among boys and girls nowadays. A survey conducted by the Daily Times (1)… that three out of every ten students interviewed are glue sniffers.
“What is glue sniffing? What is popularly known as glue sniffing is actually solvent abuse or volatile substance abuse. Glue sniffing is a deliberate inhalation through the nose and mouth of some of the fumes (2)… when products containing solvents are opened. The practice is not restricted to adhesives but includes the inhalation of fumes and sprays from many other (3)… in everyday domestic or commercial use.
“Glue sniffing means the purposeful inhalation of (4)… vapours from volatile substances in order to reach a state of intoxication in which the individual feels ‘high’. The products most commonly (5)… are quick-acting glues with a high content of harmful vapours. Dry-cleaning fluids, typing corrector fluids and nail varnish are also popular. Many aerosol sprays like hair sprays and car paints are also abused in (6)… the products mentioned earlier.
“Where does glue sniffing take place? First, the sniffer finds a (7)… place, somewhere free from interference and interruption. Then the sniffer pours or sprays the substance into (8)…, usually an empty bottle, tin or plastic bag which is held close to the nose and mouth. The sniffer inhales the fumes deeply and repeatedly until a stage of intoxication is reached. This occurs very (9)…, usually within a matter of seconds. Sometimes, the substance is sprayed directly into the mouth and inhaled. This is extremely (10)… because inhaling vapors from aerosols can cause collapse, coma or even sudden death.”
