4. Biological variables
Not only did the proximity to development and the presence of known sewage outfalls effect water quality parameters, but also underwater biotic characteristics varied between study locations and sites depending on the level of development and related water quality (Table 5). Coral condition, fish variety and fish quantity de-creased with increasing pollution level and level of tourist inten-sity (tourist development). In contrast to lower coral cover and fish variety and quantity, macroalgae were thriving (Table 5).
