The effects ofinitial pHadjustment (pH3–12)onhydrolysis and
acidification ofswine manure were studied.Alkaline environment
(pH 10–12)enhanced SCOD and VFAs concentrations insuspen-
sions, especially atpH10with which C. alkalicellu m and C. humire-
ducens were enriched, the VFAs production peaked at13,600 mg-
COD/L, 71.8%ofwhich contributed byAcand Pr.AtpH7–9meth-
ane was produced from VFAs. Inacidic environment ammonium
was released in excess.AtpH5the strain Butyricimon as sp. may
be the dominant strain for enhanced n/iso-Bu production.
