In general, consider installing a quick-acting door if there is frequent traffic between a conditioned space and another space that is at different temperatures. These are common applications:
• as a supplement for an exterior door. This allows the primary door to remain open during hours of heavy traffic. Depending on the type of primary door (see Measure 6.2.4 for details), you may be able to install the infiltration door close to the primary door, taking up little additional space.
• as the inner door of a vestibule. If possible, try to create a vestibule between the primary door and the infiltration door. This blocks infiltration more effectively during the times when the primary door is kept closed. For example, at a truck dock, install the infiltration door between the dock and the rest of the building. In this way, the entire dock acts as
a vestibule. (See Measure 6.1.8 for vestibule design issues.)
• for refrigerated spaces. If practical, install an infiltration door between any interior spaces that differ substantially in temperature. For example, in a commissary building, install an infiltration door between the meat storage freezer and the warmer part of the refrigerated space. In addition, install an infiltration door at the truck docks.
