it may play a role as a storage carbohydrate in the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae.
This latter function was suggested by the rapid mobilization
of intracellular trehalose upon the resumption
of growth of starved cells on a fresh glucose medium
and during spore maturation and germination,
as well as during oscillatory events in continuous or batch yeast cultures (22, 28).
