Use of the three types of fuel for cooking.
Real-time measurements were made on the amounts of A. mearnsii charcoal,
charcoal briquettes and kerosene required in cooking the traditional
meal for a standard Kenyan household of five people.
The cooking efficiency tests were carried out at the Human Needs
Project (HNP) open ground at Kibera slum, Nairobi, in early 2012.
The amount of fuel used and time taken to cook the meal were
calculated.
The cooking was conducted by 23 women who lit the
cooking stoves, added water and fuel as required and tasted when
the food was completely cooked.
