phytoremediation
as a soil remediation technology is only feasible when the
produced biomass can be valorized. In this regard, these authors have
studied the used of maize (Zeamays L.) as an alternative of riskreduction
and generation of an alternative income for agriculture, and gradual reduction
of the pollution levels in Belgian soils. Maize is a widely grown
staple cereal with promising attributes of a heavy metal accumulator.
This crop have been frequently used as a plant test for phytoextraction
because it fulfill the criteria of having a high biomass, a rapid growth
rate, and heavy metal tolerance (Ali et al., 2002; Chiu et al., 2005;
Nascimento and Xing, 2006; Lin et al., 2008; Poniedziałek et al., 2010;
Wuana and Okieimen, 2010; Mojiri, 2011; Moosavi and Seghatoleslami,
2013; Aliyu and Adamu, 2014; Koptsik, 2014).
