male enumerators could be identified in the remote areas of the survey locations.
The overwhelming majority of respondents were farmers (72% in Karnataka, 78% in Gujarat and 87% in West Bengal),
with only a small number reporting another income source, such as business.
More than half of the farmers in Karnataka and West Bengal were 40 years old and younger, whereas a higher number of farmers from Gujarat were above 40 years old (Table 1).
Also, farmers in Karnataka had the highest education level (45% held a higher secondary diploma), whereas education levels were lowest in West Bengal. There, 22% did not have any education and 35% of respondents had only primary education.
