On the other hand, the present results showed that the
follicle cells were scattered in between the immature stage of
oocytes, while in the early developing stages a sheath of
rounded or oval follicle cells surrounded the oocytes. A similar
observation was recorded by Yano (1988) in the ovary of
Penaeus japonicus. Talbot (1981) discussed the function of
the follicle cells and mentioned that they are responsible for
the formation of the chorionic egg membrane of the mature
ovum of Homarus americanus.
