s a Thai doctor making a living in the U.S I look back to see why most of Thai people even with higher education are good in English grammar but speaking incorrect accent. Mainly most of our English teachers are Thai who often lack the correct pronunciation experience, when I was in school in Thailand , very few spoke with the right pronunciation. Besides there are so many ways to speak English with so many different accents . We in Thailand should stick to American or British only. Do the best we can, because we as a Thai born people will never be able to get rid of our"Thai" accent completely. After listening to our prime minister's welcoming speech when Hilary Clinton was visiting Thailand recently ,I had no problem understanding Khun Yingluck English speech at all except some word like "disaster" which I think it is the only time that it was pronounced incorrectly. I think Miss Yingluck has enough courage to speak to her guest of honor in Enlish language ,I admire her for this!I believe if I could understand Khun Yingluck ,Mrs. Clinton should have no problem understanding her English. I really do not care about all the criticisms that were made after her speech. As a medical doctor I had extensive lessons & usage of English while in medical school and during my post graduate training in the U.S.my accent &pronunciation are still imperfect! I have noticed that those Laotian and Vietnamese refugees ,Thai women from the northeastern Thailand that came to the U.S after marrying to the G.Is speak American English with better pronunciation that than some of our Thai M,Ds( including me!) I believe in teaching English to Thai students we should pay more attention to the correct pronunciation rather than those complicated English grammar and we should teach our students more on daily conversation with the foreigners in this universal language
