Hematologist is an Internal Medicine, or for children - a Pediatric, medical doctor with additional qualifications enabling specialization in the evaluation and management of diseases of the blood. This specialist treats conditions such as platelet disorders, anemia such as sickle cell, blood clotting disorders, hemophiliacs, and white blood cell diseases such as leukemia, and lymphoma. Hematologists may also order blood transfusions and perform procedures such as bone marrow aspiration and biopsy. Hematology is commonly combined with Oncology as a specialty.
