Addams was born into a privileged family, but when she visited the London house, she found that she wanted something different for her own life. She would go on to start a string of reform in the U.S.—making a huge dent in poverty, getting involved in the women’s suffrage movement, and arguing in favor of peace everywhere she went.
All Addams did was visit a house, get an idea, raise some money, and then open her own house, and she changed the world. Thousands of people have had the opportunity to escape poverty because of what Addams did.
