HEALTH REMAINS A DRIVING TREND
Health concerns over the ingredients in and nutrition of beverages continued in 2015. Awareness of sugar content continued to drive volume declines in carbonates and juice, whilst bottled water maintained volume growth as consumers consumed these products for their naturally neutral properties.
DIET PEPSI – “NOW ASPARTAME FREE”
PepsiCo removed aspartame as the sweetening agent in Diet Pepsi products in August 2015, citing claims of consumer dissatisfaction with these products, which contributed to their ongoing decline. Although the US Food and Drug Administration maintains that aspartame is safe for human consumption, consumers believe the sweetener is to blame for countless maladies. In response, PepsiCo reformulated Diet Pepsi and its flavour variants, using sucralose and acesulfame potassium as sweeteners instead.
