Although the positive relation between
dyslipidemias and the development of cardiovascular
diseases, particularly of atherosclerosis, is highly
documented, studies indicate that, besides altering the
lipid profile, oxidative modifications of lipoproteins
are essential to the development and progression
of atherosclerosis (Toshima et al., 2000; Huthe and
Fagerberg, 2002).
