Ban Mae Kampong is a typical Northern Thai village, located 50 km northeast of Chiang Mai city along the Mae On- Huai Kaew Road. This village is highly recommended for ecotourists. The community ecotourism in Ban Mae Kampong was first implemented in 1999 with assistance from external organizations. The activities include village sightseeing, cultural show, merit making, and tree planting. The tourists will learn and participate in various activities of the occupation groups. Local guide is provided. Due to its hilly terrain, Ban Mae Kampong is surrounded by the forest area with the domination of hill evergreen forest. Also, there is one small waterfall originated from the natural stream in Ban Mae Kampong. The scenery of mountain range can be seen on the top of waterfall. In addition, the fermented-tea producing community is also a major tourism attraction.
