CONCLUSIONS
Koch et al. (2010) suggested that listening to the stories of the oldest old can help combat stereotypes of these individuals as being physical ly incapable and intellectually frail Because of increased longevity, it is important for health professionals to better understand important characteristics of mental health for individuals who have found satisfaction in life, even at 100 years of age. Understanding the context of mental health for this growing segment of the population can help caregivers find ways to enhance quality of life in very old age (MacDon- ald et al., 2009). Greater understanding can also inform policy makers as they draft new legislation and programs for the oldest-old.
