Designers Kolk and Kusters as Klokgebouw art directors
EINDHOVEN, May 28, 2014 - Maarten Kolk and Guus Kusters have been invited to act as art directors for the 13th edition of Dutch Design Week (DDW). The organisers have asked this design duo to take on the responsibility for the concept and layout of the exhibition area in the Klokgebouw. The appointment of Kolk and Kusters continues the policy of entrusting the art directorship to an external party. In 2013 Organisation in Design (OiD) from Utrecht fulfilled this role.
Studio Kolk & Kusters
Maarten Kolk and Guus Kusters graduated with honours from the Design Academy in 2006, and three years on they established their studio in Eindhoven. Together, they develop autonomous projects, but they also work as curators and exhibition designers for museums (Zuiderzeemuseum, Textile museum). The duo, who count Utrecht Manifest and the Sandberg Institute among their clientele, were shortlisted for the Rotterdam Designprijs (2009) and received both the Sanoma Woon Award and the DOEN|Materiaalprijs (2011).
Exhibiting and stimulating
In the role of art directors for the Klokgebouw the twosome are going to focus especially on joint ventures. Guus Kusters: ‘It strikes us that the design world and commerce increasingly manage to find each other. And during DDW we don’t just want to show that this can lead to new insights and a collective attitude to design, but primarily we want to stimulate this. We believe this is where the strength and future of the Dutch creative industry resides.’
Designers can register online for the DDW programme until the 14th of June. Immediately after this, Kolk and Kusters will announce their actual plans for the Klokgebouw. The 13th edition will take place in Eindhoven from the 18th until the 26th of October 2014.
