A jealous Ang Thong nurse has confessed to strangling her sick 6-year-old stepson because her new husband paid more attention to him than her.
Sureeporn Sornsri, 37, a senior nurse at a hospital in the central province, was summonsed for questioning on Thursday evening over the death of her stepson, Charnnarong, at an apartment in Wiset Chai Chan district.
The boy's father, Ittichai Roisri, 27, found him unconscious with blood seeping from his mouth Wednesday morning and immediately took him to a hospital where he later died.
Police took the boy's body to Thammasat University Hospital for an autopsy which concluded he had died of asphyxiation due to strangulation.
Sureeporn initially denied killing the boy, but after police showed her autopsy findings, she finally confessed to strangling him in a fit of jealousy, Thai media reported Friday.
The nurse told police that she previously lived alone at an apartment in Ang Thong's Chaiyo district before meeting Ittichai, who pumped petrol in the district. They eventually moved in together at an apartment in Wiset Chai Chan district and recently married. She also kept the previous apartment.
She then learned that Ittichai had a son with his ex-wife. He had visited Charnnarong for two weeks in Kanchanaburi after the boy fell ill due to complications from epilepsy and then brought him to live in Ang Thong.
The nurse said she felt slighted because her younger husband spent more time with his ill child than her. She admitted she got angry and jealous.
Before the murder, she left her apartment in Chaiyo early Sept 9 but dropped in at the room where her husband and his boy was staying. There, police said, she strangled the boy as he slept and used a blanket to cover the body before leaving for work.
Mr. Ittichai said he was shocked and sad after learning his wife had killed his son. However, he said he was not angry as he still loved her, Khaosod Online reported.
Police charged her with murder.
