3. Responsible authorities
3.1 The Ministry of Environment is the government agency in charge of
the overall environmental policies in South Korea. It is responsible for:
(a) enacting and amending environmental laws and regulations;
(b) drafting and implementing mid to long-term comprehensive
measures for environmental conservation;
(c) providing administrative and financial support to local
governments on policy implementation; and
(d) setting out plans and frameworks for waste reduction, recycling,
and recovery of energy through its policy branch, the Resource
Recirculation Bureau
