Grabowski(1976) identified a set of competencies that adult educators should have. He stated that adult educators should understand the motivation and participation patterns of adult learners, understand and provide for their needs, be knowledgeable in the theory and practice of adult learners, know the community and its needs, and know how to use various methods and techniques of instruction. They should also be good communicators and listeners, know how to locate and use educational materials, be open minded and allow adults to pursue their own interests, continue their own education, and be able to evaluate and appraise a program.
