Abstract—Traditional information retrieval has long been
dominated by a location-centric organization of
application objects and requires users to specify a path to
access desired objects. Grid-based information retrieval is
a new initiative to bring together information retrieval
techniques with grid technologies. Grid technologies will
offer new techniques and powerful information retrieval
systems, whilst information retrieval will offer the grid
new ways of handling and discovering information. This
paper analyzes grid-based information retrieval. Gridbased
information retrieval is capable of searching vast
amounts of geographically distributed information, which
in many cases could not be searched effectively, if at all, by
traditional information retrieval. Then, this paper probes
into the process of grid-based information retrieval. Lastly,
this paper explores the architecture for grid-based
information retrieval.
