Well, I am quite different the way I learn and think because I love sciences and love to explore life in many alternative ways, so after 4 years of working for the government in Thailand I decided to quit the job. Unfortunately, the economic went bad ( Tom yum kung), as a result I stayed back for another 6 years to be able to survive financially. I love working in ICU and in Thailand, but the system is inefficiently functioning in term of advanced practice and knowledge. Bare in mind up to today, I realized that the healthcare system in many parts of the world are like that.
To answer your question, nope, I looked around , read from internet about few countries and talked to a few people around the world in ICQ and MSN. I chose Australia for a few reasons as it is a better country in many aspects, you can see by yourself ( read the Austrailan Embassy factsheet).
I did lots of self study in term of improving my language, never went to any English private tuition in Thailand. I learnt to use internet, Microsoft( office, powerpoint & Excel)by myself.
I went to English school here in Adelaide and studied a few programs and degree as time available. It is quite expensive course if you have to pay by yourself, it might cost you a million bahts only for the language tuition ( including living cost). I would advise you to get it done in Thailand. If you are really good in studying, I advise you to get a scholarship from Thai government to study overseas then pay back by working for goverment in return before moving overseas. However, if your parents or yourself are capable to pay, go for it by your own. It is not a year preparation, it is more than a year and could be 2-10 year plan.
