At the University of Washington, thermoluminescence (TL, P1),optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) was measured on the three samples. General procedures are given in Feathers (2009).Fine-grains (1e8 mm) were isolated from the center of the sherds by mechanical drilling, treatment with HCl, and settling in acetone. TL was measured on a Daybreak 1100 reader using blue filters and heating to 450 C with a preheat of 240 C. Equivalent dose (De) was determined by the multi-aliquot slide technique (Prescott et al.,1993) and alpha efficiency was measured by the b-value, which is the slope ratio between additive dose curves constructed with alpha and beta irradiation.
