PPCM involves left ventricular systolic dysfunction that does not have an identifiable cause. An echocardiogram and blood test to messore the level of serum B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP) can be important diagnostic tests for PPVM.A left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) measurement of less than 45% can indicate the presence of PPCM (sliwa,Fett,&Elkayam,2006).Serum BNP is a substance secreted from the ventricles as a response to pressure changes associated with the development and eorsening of heart failure.Cardiac changes such as volume expansion and pressure overload in the ventricle will produce an elevated BNP level, which can be detected in the blood.Vatuous levels of BNP have been found to correlate with the severity of the symptoms (Oliveir et al., 2009).A BNP with a value of more than 100 pg/mL indicates heart failure.
