Once a child is on medications, asthma control can be determined.
Table 2 lists the parameters that define well-controlled asthma. One of the most important determinates of control is the frequency of SABA use;
albuterol is a reliever medication and should be used only when a patient is symptomatic. The more albuterol is needed, the poorer the asthma control. Standardized questionnaires for assessment and monitoring can be used to evaluate
the degree of current asthma control as well. Examples include the Asthma Control Test, Asthma Therapy Assessment Questionnaire, and Asthma Control Score.
