The Wat Pho Chai is a temple located in the southeast of Nong Khai. There is a large bronze Buddha with a solid gold head inlaid with rubies. There are wooden carvings and murals that tell the story of the image. The Buddha image was shipped from Laos across the Mekong. It fell into the water during a storm and was salvaged 25 years later. It spent some years in a Thai temple before it was moved to Wat Pho Chai. Every Songkran Festival, the image is the focal point of a procession around Nong Khai
