Antifungal activity of the crude plant
extract was analyzed using agar tube dilution
method (Sheikh et al. 1995). Test organisms
included Alternaria alternata, Aspergillus niger
Fusarium oxysporum, Trichoderma harizanum,
Aspergillus flavus, Aspergillus parasitica
and Penecillium. Stock solution at a concentration
of 24 mg/ml was prepared using
sterile DMSO. Sterile Sabouraud dextrose agar
(Sigma-Aldrich Germany) was prepared for
nourishment of fungal strains. 5 ml of sterile
medium and 67.6 μl stock solutions were
mixed in sterile test tubes in laminar flow
hood. Test tubes were placed in slanting position
and cooled. After preparation of slants,
fresh fungal cultures were inoculated to test
tubes using flame sterilized inoculating loop.
Standard drug Miconazole and DMSO were
used as positive and negative control respectively.
The samples were incubated for a week
at 28oC. After incubation, visible non-mycelia
linear growth of fungal strains were calculated
and compared.
