There is a lot of pro-Boeing mythology out there that is simply wrong:
1. Boeing aircraft are not "99.5%" of the world fleet.
2. Airbus aircraft are just as pilot controllable as any Boeing. This "oh God, a computer is flying my plane" thing is simple scare tactics. Note that Boeing are adopting the same design stratergiedsafter Airbus proved them feasable.
3. If, as suggested, one were to claim that Airbus design, build locations and engineering co-ordination are wrong, poorly managed and politically influenced, then ckeck out Boeing: egregious subsidies (and the hypocrisy to sue Airbus when they receive tax breaks) disguised as military expenditure. There are the same historical design failures and limitations as Airbus has experienced, the 787 programme is not exactly running to time either yet Airbus is criticised when then same things happen.
4. Airbus aircraft are not disposable either.
Face it: Boeing takes Airbus seriously. There is something to be said for any company that has risen to around 50% of market share (a bit more or less depending on what measure is used) in a relatively short time. I think there is also a great deal of pro-US sentiment here on
Y!A.
Go international, and opinions are not nearly so pro-Boeing, though, to be fair, Airbus product cops its fair share of critique too.
Oh, and most of the cargo door incidents came about as a result of poorly designed latches.....that Boeing knew about but did not issue maintinence orders on.
Like you, I fly often (more than 250 flights in an average year) and am always glad that Airbus aircraft are so popular in Asia.
