Common sense in organizations
Common sense as defined above has a lot to do with intuition. When in shortage of
time, information and other required resources, intuition is called upon for sound
decision making (Moon, 2009). Dane and Pratt (2007) relate to intuition as the ability to
make high quality decisions relatively quickly, and Patton (2003) related intuition to
expertise, so that one’s level of expertise affects one’s ability to successfully intuit.
According to Benson and Dresdow (2009), intuition introduces a paradox, in which on
one hand intuitive decisions can produce devastating results, and on the other can
produce optimal solutions (Meyer and Hutchinson, 2001). To allow for sound decision,
Albrecht (2007) relates to intulogical thinking, or the ability to combine logic and
intuition.
