I write in relation to the importation capsules containing sibutramine which was intercepted in a postal packet addressed to you, by the Guernsey Border Agency (GBA) on 26th August 2015
With effect from Friday 1st August 2014, irrespective of the amount, the importation of “medicinal products” has been banned under the Import and Export Law 1946, unless a licence has been issued. On 1st August 2014 the import Order 2014 came into effect which removed the “personal use” aspect relating to the importation of medicinal products and therefore prohibited the importation of any medicinal products into the island without a licence.
The definition of a medicinal product can be found in the medicines law 2008
The GBA will not be taking any further action on this occasion, other than seising the goods, however should you be involved in any further offences of this kind consideration will be given to initiating a full investigation that may lead to criminal proceedings taking place.
