Story about the female CEO, Diana Wilson
The new CEO of our company, Diana Wilson, is a firm and strong-minded leader. She adheres to things enthusiastically and finishes them off without hesitation.
The story starts by positioning Diana Wilson as a leader, someone who knows what to do and is able to operate quickly. Instead of moral positioning indicating her actions in the company, she is person- ally positioned as a firm, strong-minded, and enthusiastic character. Drawing on the masculine features of the management discourse, Diana Wilson is further positioned as an agentic person who is independent and able to make decisions (see for example, Alvesson and Due Billing, 1997, p. 84; Diekman and Eagly, 2000; Eagly and Wood, 1991; Williams and Best, 1982). This position of an agentic person can be associated with the idea of the strong Finnish woman who is capable and efficient in to her professional life.
She is quick to give feedback, especially negative feedback. Considering the fact that our company has done particularly well this year, it would be nice to occasionally receive some positive feedback as well. Rewarding personnel is also a part of giving positive feedback. All bonus reward systems were suspended once Diana Wilson started as CEO. She claimed that she wanted to renew the system, but despite numerous requests from the personnel to bring it back, this has not been done. The employees, who are accustomed to the bonus reward system, have started to complain, because they have not been in any way rewarded for the record-breaking profit the company has made.
