3.5. Conclusions
From the results of experiments reviewed, it can be
concluded that the high volatile matter contents of agricultural
residues have a significant effect on the combustion
mechanisms and consequently on the design and operation
of the combustion systems for these fuels. Devolatilization
starts at low temperatures and this indicates that for low
moisture content residues, the process of devolatization is
expected to take place as soon as the fuel is exposed to a
