CALICO History
Established in 1992 with Ford Foundation seed funding matched by the Desmond Tutu Educational Trust, the Cape Library Cooperative (CALICO) was the first library consortium in South Africa.
CALICO's mission at inception was to promote information literacy and economic development of the region by providing information to users in the form they want, when and where they need it at an affordable price.
The Cape Library Cooperative (CALICO) adjusted its vision and mission statements in 2004 and changed its name to Cape Library Consortium (CALICO).
