It was reported that
local IgA and IgM, rather than IgG antibodies, on the
mucosal surface of the respiratory tracts of vaccinated
chickens play a critical role as a primary barrier
against viral infection on the mucosal surface,
resulting in protection of the chickens from
subsequent systemic infection (Takada and Kida,
1996).
